Remove the crusts from the bread. Place on slice of ham and a thin slice of cheese on the ham. Sprinkle it with a little freshly ground pepper.

A simpler filling of just ham or cheese can also be used.

Mix the egg whites and milk together in a bowl.

Cut the sandwiches into quarters and pace them into the dish. After 5 minutes use a wide knife or spatula to turn the sandwich quarters over so that both sides soak up the milk.

Heat the olive oil in a frying pan on a medium heat and use the spatula / wide knife to put the sandwich quarters into the pan.

Fry for about 3 to 4 minutes then turn them over and fry on the other side for the same amount of time.

Sprinkle a little salt over them and serve immediately.
