Chest and upright differ significantly in what drawers can be offered so we treat them separately below. CHEST FREEZER DRAWERS Check that the size of the baskets is suitable for you. If they are too large they may be difficult to lift out. We recommend you select a freezer that has the option to buy more baskets at a later date if the need arises. Bosch has some particularly good options for baskets. Chest freezers with a counterbalanced lid are also worth thinking about. The lid can be half opened without the need to hold it there. This will make lifting out the baskets easier. Consider also if the lid is load-bearing? Most manufacturers state in their brochure if the lid is load-bearing, useful if you want to place other items on the top. UPRIGHT FREEZER DRAWERS It's also useful if the fronts of the drawers are see through. This lets you see the contents without having to open up the drawers. For freezing fruit, especially berries, some models have a "slim drawer". This allows the fruit to be spread out without any crushing. These slim drawers are also often just the right size for storing pizzas! Finally, make sure the drawers are strong, replacing them if they break is expensive. Drawers will also need to be cleaned regularly so make sure they have simple flat surfaces to make cleaning an easy task. GO BACK TO FREEZER FEATURES INDEX
