Shukurs Brasserie first came to Kineton in 2000 and have built up a very loyal following not only for the meals they serve but also their excellent takeaways. Owned by Mr Shah, he also owns Swan Inn in Kineton and another nearby Indian restaurant in Wellesbourne. So he understands the locals well and makes sure they are happy after a visit to Shukurs.

Map: See below.

BACKGROUND

Shukurs has a very unassuming entrance on Bridge Street in Kineton. They have no parking facilities however on street parking is available very nearby.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE SHUKURS, KINETON

The frontage is narrow but as you enter the door you will be surprised at how large the restaurant is, it goes back a very long way.

The lighting is very subdued (there is almost no natural light at all), probably a bit too low. The walls are mainly flock wallpaper with some parts exposed original stonework. The surroundings are pleasant but nothing outstanding.

THE MENU

The menu is standard for a largish restaurant of this type. You will find all the normal biryanis, different types of curries, house specials and rice. They do serve a small range of English dishes, starters and ice cream deserts.

Prices again are about average. We had popadoms, a special biryani, keema bhuna, plain rice, large lager and a glass of wine with the total bill coming to £18, service not included.

THE FOOD AND DRINK

We've visited Shukurs Brasserie on numerous occasions over the last eight years and the food has always been top quality. What is also surprising over that length of time is the consistent top quality every time, never a visit when we were disappointed.

The drink on offer is much what you would expect, a good range of refreshing lagers, red and white wines, champagne and aperitifs. Spirits and mixers are also available. As well as the restaurant food, Shukurs also offer takeaway at reduced prices. These are extremely popular and many people have a drink in the "minimal" bar area whilst waiting for their takeaway.

SERVICE

The service is always excellent at Shukurs. Even at busy times you will be greeted on entry and shown to your table. They will then take your drink order and ask if you want popadoms - we recommend them highly because the accompanying dips are just right as a small starter. Service throughout the meal is prompt, polite and attentive - excellent.

PRICES

We've listed an example price of £18 for a meal for two including a couple of drinks which is good value given the quality of the food, the service and the surroundings.

NEARBY ALTERNATIVES

The nearest Indian restaurant is in Wellesbourne. The refurbished Swan Inn in Kineton now serves good food in pleasant surroundings. The Malt Shovel in nearby Gaydon (three miles away and very close to junction 12 of the M40) serves top quality food in a country pub setting. The Gaydon Inn is also nearby but currently is in a state of flux with the owners trying to sell it.

OPINIONS FROM OTHER REVIEW SITES

There are several internet reviews of Shukurs Brasserie in Kineton and almost all are very complimentary about the food and service. Several also recommend the monthly (or bi-monthly) Elvis nights although we haven't tried one yet.
