Non-standard Cooking Utensils: A large pan


Ingredients:

450 g (1 lb) shin of beef or similar cut - chopped into cubes

1.2 litres (2.2 pints) of water

2 old potatoes - peeled and chopped

1 carrot - peeled and chopped

3 turnips - peeled and chopped

200 g (7 oz) rice

A sprinkling of any available herbs especially parsley

55 g (2 oz) plain flour (more if thicker soup is wanted)

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Method

1. Add all the ingredients to a large pan and cook for 3½ hours until the meat is tender

2. Serve in warm soup bowls accompanied by bread or a side plate of vegetables.
