COOK'S NOTES FOR CHILDREN'S EGGY BREAD

Most of this recipe can be done by your kids, although the frying obviously needs an adult. Don't let the bread become very stale because cutting out the shapes then becomes very difficult especially if you are using shape cutters. If you don't have shape cutters then simply cut the bread into fingers or other simple shapes.

The mixture that you soak the bread in can be exactly as we list below or it can be just eggs, it makes little difference. Cinnamon can be added for a more interesting taste although young children will probably like the simpler mixture we list below.

RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Add the eggs, milk and seasoning to a container and mix with a fork until the whites and yolk are mixed together.

Pour the mixture into a wide bowl and then add a few of the bread shapes into the mixture. Don't add too many, that would make it difficult to get the soaked bread out. You will probably need to soak the bread in batches.

STEP 2

The frying will need to done by an adult! Add the oil to a frying pan on a medium heat. let the oil warm up and then add egg soaked bread shapes. Use a spatula to remove them from the bowl because they can easily break if you are not careful.

They take about 3 minutes on each side until they are cooked to a golden brown colour.

STEP 3

Remove the cooked eggy bread from the frying pan and place on kitchen paper to absorb the excess oil. You'll need to cook the eggy bread in a couple of batches.

Let the eggy bread cool slightly and then get the kids to decorate them with chocolate bits or whatever sweet topping they fancy.
