Three slices of dense bread |
Two large eggs |
Two tablespoons of milk |
Five tablespoons of sunflower or vegetable oil |
Something sweet to sprinkle over the cooked eggy bread, we used chocolate sprinkles. |
Salt and pepper to taste |
Cut the bread into shapes, chuck the leftover bread out for the birds!
The mixture that you soak the bread in can be exactly as we list below or it can be just eggs, it makes little difference. Cinnamon can be added for a more interesting taste although young children will probably like the simpler mixture we list below.
Add the eggs, milk and seasoning to a container and mix with a fork until the whites and yolk are mixed together.
Pour the mixture into a wide bowl and then add a few of the bread shapes into the mixture. Don't add too many, that would make it difficult to get the soaked bread out. You will probably need to soak the bread in batches.
They take about 3 minutes on each side until they are cooked to a golden brown colour.
